A new way to understand fashion appeared when celebrities took over social networks. They started posting backstage pictures or photos of their getaways and nights with friends and showing us, not famous people, what living like a star felt like.

However, their accounts totally took off when they started to post their OOTD (Outfit of the Day) pictures and began to show and tell their beauty and fashion tricks and style. Their fashion influence grew fast and soon brands noticed this and started to consider them the new fashion gurus and influencers.

With their guidelines of how to have their flawless looks and their perfect selfies, celebrities became the rulers of street and red carpet style. Probably the main reason why they succeeded so much is that they brought to us their lifestyle, a lifestyle that attracts especially teenagers and young people. By showing the brightest and at the same time most casual (everyday life) part of their lives, they managed to catch the attention of millions of users all around the world. Celebrities have found out now that social networks are their best promoters and the more they show the better.

King Kylie @kyliejenner

Although she’s not the most followed person on Instagram anymore, Kylie Jenner is the image of this new fashion era. With 57.3 million followers on Instagram, she’s definitely the queen of selfies. She has redefined the concept of fashion by establishing a new model that includes a mixture of a laid-back style and a chic fancier one. In addition, her beauty looks with the full lips and her eyebrows ‘on fleek’ have changed the former standard of beauty towards one that is moving away from the one we had in the early 00s.

Kylie’s career’s highlight came when, after making her lip makeup ‘a thing’, she created her own cosmetics company: Kylie Cosmetics. Her lip liners and lipsticks were sold out in minutes. She’s also a bug promoter of the ‘waist trainer’ turning it into a trendy item. Needless to say is that big firms like Balmain or Givenchy have made her their beauty icon.

Celebrities a.k.a Influencers

Apart from the whole Kardashian-Jenner clan, other singers, actresses and models have taken over the fashion industry thanks to social networks and created trends that have become a hot topic worldwide. Some good examples could be Selena Gomez (74 million followers) who rules Instagram being the most followed person; Taylor Swift (72.9 million followers), with her lady style; Cara Delevingne (28.9 million followers) with her casual and tomboy but fashionable style; or Zendaya (23.9 million followers) bringing the classy elegant fashion back fused with a laid back background.
